World Cup 2026 Toronto Fan Zone — The Bentway FIFA Fan Festival
The Bentway, the park and cultural space under the Gardiner Expressway, will host Toronto's official FIFA Fan Festival during the 2026 World Cup. It is the best free viewing experience in the city — and Liberty Village is the closest neighbourhood to it.
What Is the FIFA Fan Festival?
FIFA Fan Festivals are the official free viewing zones set up in every host city during the World Cup. They feature:
- Giant LED screens showing every match of the tournament
- Food vendors with local and international cuisine
- Live music and DJs between matches
- FIFA sponsor activations — brand experiences, games, and giveaways
- Beer gardens with official tournament sponsors
- Cultural performances representing competing nations
Entry is free. No ticket required. Open to all ages.
Location and Getting There from Liberty Village
The Bentway is located under the Gardiner Expressway between Strachan Avenue and Bathurst Street. From Liberty Village:
- Walk — 12-15 minutes south and slightly east along Strachan Avenue. The most reliable option on match days.
- 504 streetcar — Take it east 2 stops to Strachan/King, then walk south. 10-15 minutes total.
- Bike — 5-minute ride. Lock up at the Bike Share station at Strachan & Fort York Blvd.
Do not drive. There is no parking at The Bentway on match days.
What to Expect
Based on previous FIFA Fan Festivals in Qatar 2022 and Brazil 2014:
Capacity: 5,000-10,000 at peak times. Toronto's Bentway site has space for the larger end.
Crowds: Expect standing-room crowds for marquee matches (Canada games, semifinal, final). Arrive 1-2 hours early for popular matches. Quieter group stage matches between smaller nations will have space.
Hours: Typically open from the first match of the day until 2-3 hours after the last match ends. On Toronto match days (when BMO Field is hosting), the Fan Festival will be at maximum energy.
Food and drink: Vendors will be on site, but lines can be long during popular matches. Eat before you go — grab something from NODO or Impact Kitchen in Liberty Village, then walk over.
Liberty Village as Fan Festival Base Camp
Living in Liberty Village during the World Cup makes you the ideal Fan Festival attendee:
- Pre-match: Eat breakfast at Balzac's, watch the early match at Craft Beer Market
- Main event: Walk to The Bentway for the Toronto match on the giant screens
- Post-match: Walk home in 12 minutes, change, then head to Liberty Commons for the evening atmosphere
- Late night: Catch highlights at Brazen Head before bed
No Uber, no transit stress, no searching for parking. You are home in 12 minutes from the best free viewing experience in Toronto.
Tips for Liberty Village Residents
- Bring a blanket or camping chair — seating is first-come-first-served on grass areas
- Sunscreen — the Gardiner provides some shade, but the main viewing areas are exposed
- Cash and cards — most vendors accept both, but card payments can be slow with spotty connectivity
- Phone charger — you will be streaming, photographing, and sharing all day
- Meet friends at a landmark — cell service will be terrible in crowds. Pick a meeting point in advance.
